I did a F.C.A. Speech on September 17th at my school !! And so here it is I feel like everyone needs to hear this !!
I remember one game when I was about 7 years old where I made the winning play, and everyone was cheering my name. At that moment, I felt unstoppable. But now, I realized I hadnโt given God any credit for the talent or opportunity He gave me. I was soaking up all the glory for myself.
Maybe for you itโs not sports, maybe itโs your job, school, music, leadership, or even social media. We all have moments where we want the spotlight.
These are my main 3 points:
1. Our natural tendency is pride.
We like the glory, the attention, the praise. But the Bible warns us in Proverbs 16:18: โPride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.โ Pride shifts the focus from God to us, and thatโs dangerous because we start to rely on our own strength.
2. Our strength comes from God.
Yes, we train, we study, we practice. But ultimately every talent and gift is from God. Philippians 4:13 reminds us: โI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.โย Without God, even our best effort falls short. Heโs the source of our ability and endurance. God gives you strength!
3. Our wins are opportunities to glorify God.
The purpose of our talents isnโt just to make us look good but to point people to Him. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says: โSo whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.โย Every success can be a chance to say: โLook what God has done in me.โ
Kinda where I wrap things up:
This week, after a win or even just a compliment, pause and say: โThank You, God.โ And if the moment allows, let others know you give Him the glory. People will notice when you shift the spotlight away from yourself and onto God.
Thinking Questions:
- What one area this week where you can shift the glory from yourself to God?
- Why do you think pride is so dangerous?
- How you ever had a moment were you thought, โI can’t do thisโ but somehow you did?
- What would it look like for you to point others to God after a win or a big accomplishment?
- Where in your life are you keeping the glory for yourself? Sports? Job? Social media? Relationships?
